Upper lip shadow is fading
Melasma on my upper lip and cheeks after pregnancy. By week ten it was much lighter. I wear SPF 50 and a hat — that part is essential.
Melasma
Melasma causes brown or gray-brown patches, usually on the cheeks, forehead and upper lip. It is commonly linked to sun exposure and hormonal changes, and it tends to recur, so ongoing sun protection and maintenance matter. Vuret offers a Melasma Cream used in cycles.
Any patch that is raised, irregular, changing quickly or bleeding should be checked in person.
| Option | Overview |
|---|---|
| Strict sun protection | Daily broad-spectrum SPF 30+ and reapplication. |
| Prescription combination creams (e.g. Vuret Melasma Cream) | Hydroquinone, a retinoid and a mild steroid, used in cycles. |
| Maintenance creams | Hydroquinone-free creams after the active phase. |
| In-office treatments | Peels or lasers, used with care because melasma can rebound. |

I expected a lot of irritation but the hydrocortisone seems to help. A bit of initial dryness around my cheeks, but patches are definitely lighter.
Finished the active cycle and moved to the hydroquinone-free cream. The provider explained why the cycles matter. Results have held up beautifully with strict daily sunscreen.
Cheek patches are noticeably lighter. If you spend time outdoors you really have to be diligent about re-applying SPF 50, but the cream itself made a visible difference.
Vuret describes an adjustment period in weeks 1–2, lighter patches in weeks 4–8 and a more even tone by week 12. Results vary.
Hydroquinone 8%, tretinoin 0.05%, hydrocortisone 1% and kojic acid 6% in a 30 g prescription cream.
